That analogy also allows Jorgensen to refine his culinary chops. He offers his time for free to learn from top chefs in restaurant kitchens around the globe. Jorgensen recently traveled to Texas to hone his skills in the pride of Texas-style barbecue - brisket - at several barbecue joints. He’s also planning a three-week trip to Italy to learn the art of Italian cuisine.
So, what does this have to do with being a successful mortgage broker? It seems like a lot.
Jorgensen explains that the talents needed to become a top chef, such as creativity, leadership, decision making, organization and communication skills, are exactly what are required to prosper as a mortgage broker.
A broker for more than two decades, Jorgensen’s passion for helping people reach their ultimate goal of home ownership still jazzes him up.
“No two files are the same. My favourite part is we help clients purchase a product that will contain every aspect of the human experience. Joy, sorrow, love, children, either arriving or leaving,” says the father of three grown children, all in university. “To me, being a part of that experience in any small way is very satisfying.”
Building a business.
Jorgensen has been involved in real estate, either selling or financing, for most of his adult life.
Prior to venturing into mortgage brokering, Jorgensen was previously the CMO for a large Western Canadian Firm.
“Other than that I was a licensed realtor in both Alberta and BC, as well as managed three subdivisions for a large builder in Western Canada,” says Jorgensen. “I am a licensed mortgage broker in Alberta and BC.”
Serving all of Vancouver Island, the founder of EBS Mortgages, a member of Mortgage Architects, went on to say that he especially loves assisting first time home buyers.

“The Victoria Western Communities and the Island in general are the best places in the world to live,” says Jorgensen. “The people, the weather and the scenery are, to me, unrivaled.”
When he isn’t going to bat for his clients, Jorgensen and his trusted companion, a five-year-old Great Dane called Ramius, head out for long walks and road trips.
Besides his culinary pursuits, Jorgensen is an avid outdoorsman who loves to fish, hike, hunt, swim, and take part in archery and combat sports.
“I love boxing and I'm a member of Westshore Boxing Gym,” says Jorgensen. “I’m also an avid reader and as a mortgage broker there is no shortage of opportunities for continuous learning.”
