“After years of being in the social services sector, I was in search of a new passion and challenge,” says Winn. “I knew I loved helping people and making a difference, so it had to include that.”
Initially, her interest in mortgage brokering was sparked by her sister, as she had made the same career move a year prior.
“My sister and my dad had been buying and selling real estate for years, and as my husband and I have owned multiple properties, I know firsthand how important it is to have educated people guide you in these decisions,” explains Winn. “Becoming a mortgage broker has allowed me to combine my love for helping people with a fresh and exciting career path.”
Becoming a broker.
Winn went on to UBC’s Sauder School of Business to earn her brokering license and was soon hired by PowerHaus Mortgage as a mortgage broker.
Winn’s commitment to making the home-buying process seamless and stress-free through a client-centered approach is winning her clients.
Her former career’s skills transfer extremely well. Social work, an occupation that taught Winn the value of being a good listener, has parallels to being a mortgage broker. In both, Winn says, you have to understand what a person needs and how to support them.
Winn believes her strengths are her ability to empathize with people and support them in what can be stressful financial situations.
“ ”
I’m a problem-solver and knowing the ins and outs of the industry helps me better serve my clients. It can be especially daunting for first-time home buyers so I really spend the time getting to know their wants and needs.

Out of office.
Winn firmly believes in a healthy life/work balance, so when she’s away from work, family comes first. As a family, they love taking camping trips over the summer months, while baking with her daughters is another favourite pastime.
“I love to host family dinners, reading and learning a new subject. I'm a lifelong student, truly,” says Winn. “I also love fitness and taking my kids and dog to the ocean and walking along the beach.”
Winn also keeps a hand in her former career, but today she does so as a volunteer. Over the last three years, Winn has carved out time to mentor youth who are struggling in her community of Tsawwassen.
