Metro Vancouver

Population

150,000 (2024 estimate)

Urban meets rural.

The Township of Langley straddles the line between the end of Metro Vancouver and the beginning of the Fraser Valley Regional District, and that means living here brings a mix of both rural and urban. With plenty of agricultural reserve land and six primary settlement areas, there’s a sense of small-town connectedness among neighbours, but with the SkyTrain set to arrive in late 2029, strata complexes and condo towers are coming, too.

For Homeseekers, there’s a mix of the urban amenities of Metro Vancouver with the wide-open spaces and relaxed lifestyle found if you keep heading further east. You will need a car to experience them, but living in Willoughby, for instance, means you’re only 30 minutes away from places like Backyard Vineyards and Kensington Prairie Farm. Still, with a Costco and Walmart close by, you’re not totally cut off from urban comforts.

For an even slower pace of life, you could opt for Fort Langley by the Fraser River. Steeped in history as the “birthplace of BC,” Homeseekers can find museums, eclectic shops, breweries and more even in this small area. Because it’s surrounded by farmland, locally grown produce and products are just next door. Sometimes literally – you might find a house or condo overlooking fertile fields. And every year, the Fort Langley Cranberry Festival is a chance to celebrate the harvest and sample local offerings.

Put down your own roots.

Because of its unique development patterns, with “nodes” or “hubs” of settlements enveloped by farmland and open spaces, Langley Township is made up of many tight-knit communities. Each area consists of neighbours that look out for each other and a sense of connectedness prevails. So despite having around 150,000 people living here, you’ll quickly get to know names and faces.

For Homeseekers looking to escape the noise and bustle of Vancouver, but with some creature comforts still available, Langley Township offers a unique lifestyle that’s hard to find elsewhere.
