Vancouver and Victoria posted two of Canada's three biggest annual drop in new home prices in April, Statistics Canada reported June 12.

The average price of a new home in Vancouver fell 1.5% in April compared with the previous year the largest price drop of the 21 census metropolitan areas surveyed.

The third biggest price drop was seen in Victoria, where the new house price index fell 1.1%.

The region that saw the biggest price increase was Calgary, where the index rose 7.6% compared with April 2013.

Canada's overall new housing price index rose 0.2% year over year.

On a month over month basis, Vancouver's new home prices fell 0.3% compared with March 2014.

The new housing price index excludes condos, which the government has said are of greater concern than single-family homes.
