A drop in home sales in December prevented 2016 breaking any records, but home prices are still high, as our essential infographic reveals

Despite a record-breaking spring market, last year turned out to be just the third-busiest on record for Greater Vancouver home sales, falling just shy of both 2015 and 2005, according to Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver (REBGV) data released January 3.

December 2016 saw a sharp drop in home sales of nearly 40 per cent compared with December 2015. But, while benchmark prices have slipped a little since the high of August 2016, they are still well up on one year ago.

The infographic below breaks out the key headline statistics by property type, and looks closer at the wildly varying benchmark prices in the region’s different cities and neighbourhoods.
