The federal government, via its housing agency, is asking all Canadians to help shape the new National Housing Strategy by taking a survey and submitting “bold and innovative” housing ideas.
The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) has launched a survey on LetsTalkHousing.ca, which it is asking people to complete. There is also a separate tool to submit housing ideas for the strategy, and another section to send in ideas by uploading a written document.
The deadline for all contributions is October 21, 2016.
The CMHC said that for Canada’s National Housing Strategy to work, the vision behind it has to:
- speak to all Canadians;
- address a full spectrum of needs, from people who are homeless to those who rent from the private market or own their own home;
- improve the lives of people in greatest need;
- place housing at the centre of communities; and
- recognize the importance of housing to achieving other social, economic and environmental goals.
The results of what Canadians contributed to the National Housing Strategy will be released on November 22 (National Housing Day) via an online Town Hall and a full report on the website.
