To help home owners make informed home renovation decisions, the Greater Vancouver Home Builders' Associationin partnership with BC Hydro, Canada Mortgage & Housing Corporation and FortisBCis presenting its annual Ask a Pro Renovation Seminar + Expo on Thursday, May 16 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Croatian Cultural Centre 3250 Commercial Drive, Vancouver.
Talk to renovators, suppliers, subtrades and other service providers during the pre-seminar exhibition from 5:30 7:30 p.m. The seminar is 7:00 9:00 p.m.
Seminar presenters will guide you through the various stages of the home renovation process, including design and planning, legal and contracts, selecting a RenoMark renovator, municipal permits, and living through a renovation. Presenters include award-winning renovators, a construction lawyer and municipal building official.
A record $7.6 billion is expected to be spent on home renovation and improvement in B.C. this year$3.8 billion in Metro Vancouver aloneso it is crucial to do your homework before you sign a contract with a professional renovation contractor. Home owners can get themselves into trouble with liability issues and the tax man if they deal in the cash-only underground economy, rather than hiring a professional.
