As a buyer and in negotiations with the sellers’s agent Colleen Shorter of Royal LePage Sussex, I was shocked by her negotiation tactics between two offers. Instead, of countering one of the offers, Shorter “verbally” played each buyer. I was advised verbally that the other offer was “firm” sticking with their offer, but if I brought my price up to the seller’s desired price, they would accept my offer and the condominium would be mine. They even went as far as saying, that they “liked” me better, not sure what that meant, but my guess is because I told them I was local and grew up in NV and provided the flexibility that the seller can choose the completion date. Finally, after about 30 mins, and much deliberation, I agreed to meet the seller’s price. I was told verbally they ACCEPTED my offer. I was excited! A few minutes later my agent gets a phone call. Even though the seller agent Colleen Shorter just told me my offer was accepted and they would send the paperwork over, she advised us that the other offer added a chunk of money at their offer, and they no longer would accept my offer. IF I had known their tactics, I would not have brought my price up, and in turn, causing the other buyer to pay more for a condominium that was on the market for 100+ days. Since it was all done verbally there is nothing ILLEGAL; however the seller agent Colleen Shorter was completely UNPROFESSIONAL!

Colleen was my realtor when I got my first place at 19 years old. Being so young and excited there was little that I knew about the entire process. She had the drive and patients to not only look out for my best interest but to also explain the entire process to me. Nothing came as a surprise to me during the buying process as Colleen went through everything with me before things would happen. Deadlines, finances etcetera. I was a very picky buyer with a set budget and high expectations. Colleen never stopped the hunt and she got me exactly what I wanted and needed. I appreciated her help so much that I recommended her to my boyfriend whom also reached out to her for his real estate needs. She took the same care with his first big purchase as she did for me.
