East Vancouver

Market Expert
Moving from South Africa to BC, Barrett Sprowson understands why it’s a destination for Homeseekers.
Barrett Sprowson, Vice President of Sales and Project Marketing at Peterson, has seen a lot of the world. He grew up in Malawi and lived in South Africa, the UK and the US before arriving in Vancouver. This global experience helps him understand what makes Vancouver such a destination and how developers can harness that feeling. “I have some perspective of why Vancouver is so desirable and how lucky we are,” he says. That’s why he’s so passionate about building housing in BC.
As a part of Peterson, Barrett knows the inside details of how new buildings get built. So, he makes sure to be upfront and honest with real estate agents when promoting new homes and development projects. According to him, “being transparent and delivering on what we commit to, that's something that I've spent a lot of time focusing on.”
He’s seen the benefits of this approach first-hand. For example, a grandmother bought a condo in a development as a surprise for her granddaughter finishing her education. And parents have been looking out for their children, too. “We have a community that we're selling at the moment in East Van on Kingsway, and the last six homes that we sold there, three of them were purchased by people who are buying for their kids.”
Bringing the kind of new developments that people are seeking for themselves and their families to life is why Barrett works so hard researching, planning and promoting buildings and projects across Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. According to Barrett, he isn’t in development just to make money, but to help provide Homeseekers with the kind of properties they’ll love. He “finds it very rewarding doing something that's bigger than making a buck.”

The types of homes available have become more diverse from new duplex type homes to townhomes, more condo product and purpose built rental add to the choices available to home buyers and those looking for rental homes.
What do you think it will be like in the next five to ten years?
I think it will be awesome. East Van has a DNA that speaks to a diverse set of humans, and the development trajectory of the various submarkets will only serve to enhance that desirability and authenticity. I don't think it will hinder it.
