Meet Whiskey Six BBQ, a place where the past and present meet on a delicious platter. The eatery takes its name from a 1920s-era car, the McLaughlin H44 Buick, or "The Whiskey Six," famous for its role in the rum-running exploits of the Prohibition era. And while the days of illicit bootlegging are long gone, the spirit of those times is kept alive in this restaurant, manifesting in the form of some of the best BBQ and whiskey in Vancouver.
One step into Whiskey Six BBQ and you're welcomed by an aroma that is equal parts comforting and tantalizing. This cozy smokehouse is a paradise for lovers of low and slow barbeque, offering tender, smoked meats that fall right off the bone and onto your taste buds. The dishes here are not just meals, but experiences, each bite a testament to the art of barbequing.
The experience wouldn't be complete without their impressive drinks menu. Whiskey Six BBQ honours its bootlegging namesake by offering a stellar selection of fine whiskies from around the world, Vancouver's own small-batch distilleries, and local craft beers. It's the perfect place to discover your new favourite brown liquor or craft brew.
Note: Whiskey Six operates on a reservation-only basis, so when planning your visit, be sure to book a table in advance.

If you’re considering a move to Renfrew, we have good news. Some of the best Italian fare in the city isn’t far away, at Casa Eatalia. Their arancini and focaccia is the key to our heart, but we won’t pass up any of their desserts, pasta al forno, or pizza either. This is an incredible shop.
To learn more about the story of Italians in East Vancouver, step into Il Museo at the Italian Cultural Centre. Their rotating exhibits provide a fascinating look into the rich Italian heritage that forms a substantial part of Renfrew's cultural fabric. And after immersing yourself in history, enjoy an authentic Italian meal on your way out the door. Homemade Lasagna is available for takeout. Seriously
Sustainably delicious.
On Renfrew and Grandview Highway, there's an unassuming restaurant called Sushi Nanaimo. Though it might seem like any other sushi spot in Vancouver, there's one thing that sets them apart: their commitment to sustainability. You can enjoy their delicious creations, from classic rolls to inventive combinations, knowing that they source sustainable seafood. Try the Drunken Tiger Roll, their special roll made with prawn tempura, cucumber, avocado, tobiko, ebi with spicy mayo, unagi sauce, and chili sauce. It’s the perfect bite.
The heart of the community.
If you ever want to see the neighbourhood come alive, look no further than the Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival, held annually in September at Renfrew Park. This celebration of the full harvest moon brings the community together with food, music, lanterns, and a magical moonlit walk through the Renfrew Ravine. It's a remarkable sight to see hundreds of handmade lanterns illuminating the park, reflecting the vibrant spirit and unity of the Renfrew community.

A beautiful day in the neighbourhood.
It’s hard to put a finger on what makes a neighbourhood a great neighbourhood. There’s a spirit to these places, a meshing of the lives and loves and laughter and losses of all of those who took root there at one time or another. It’s places to eat that would never succeed anywhere else. It’s local grocers whose produce is only outweighed by their personalities. It’s the lives of the people who truly bring the bricks and mortar to life. And that’s worth buying into.
