Are you a fan of mid-century and West Coast architecture? Some tickets are still available for the annual Mid-Century Mondern home tour by the Vancouver Heritage Foundation, running on Saturday September 26, 2015.
Spend an afternoon exploring local examples of the Mid-Century and West Coast Modernist style including the 1962 Danto Residence designed by renowned architect Arthur Erickson. There will also be a rare opportunity to see inside Arthur Erickson’s own home and garden, enabling tour participants to compare the expansive work indicative of Erickson’s famed style (such as the Danto Residence) with the relatively modest home he designed for himself.
The BC Electric Building, now known as The Electra, is the latest addition to this year’s tour. This award-winning building was one of the first Modernist buildings in Vancouver and is recognized across Canada for its innovative design. Originally the head office of BC Electric, or BC Hydro, the building was converted into condos in the early 1990s, and the tour will take participants inside a few of the unique apartments.

The tour ticket also includes an invitation to the wine and cheese reception at a stunning West Coast Modern home recently used in the Tim Burton feature film Big Eyes (for a limited number of guests), which includes a short talk from guest speaker Professor Leslie Van Duzer of the UBC School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture.
Whether participants choose the self-guided tour ($90+tax) or bus option ($110+tax, now limited to wait list only), the ticket includes a $50 donation, with charitable tax receipt, to support VHF programming.
