For many Metro Vancouver residents, our expensive real estate market means that buying or upgrading to a fancier home is not an option – which means more and more people are taking on renovation projects, according to the Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association (GVHBA).
“GVHBA builders and renovators are seeing an upswing in home renovations as customers look to adapt living spaces to meet the changing needs of families,” said Bob de Wit, GVHBA CEO.“When you consider the cost of selling and current lack of available housing inventory, renovating to accommodate changing family configurations such as adult children, aging seniors and mortgage-helping laneway homes makes sense.”
To connect home renovators with the design and build professionals they need to make their homes work for their needs, the GVHBA is holding its annual Home Reno Show from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, April 1 at VanDusen Gardens in Vancouver.
The Home Reno Show includes the always popular Ask-a-Pro Expo, where consumers can sit down one-on-one with professional contractors, designers and other renovation-related suppliers to review their personal renovation plans and get invaluable tips and advice.
There is also a series of seminars with limited seating throughout the day, as follows:

Laurel James, of exhibitor Novell Design Build, said that “a lot more families are considering renovations for multi-generational living,” and that design is a key element when considering how to blend the varying needs of different family members.
The GVHBA Home Reno Show is completely free to attend, although pre-registration is required. What’s more, the first 50 people to attend the show will gain access to the gardens for free.
