For Taylor McPherson, Mission is more than just a hometown. It’s the kind of place that you only see in movies, a place with a special way of life that most of us can only dream of. When McPherson talks about the place he’s spent most of his life, it’s like he’s letting you in on a well-kept secret.
“It just has this quaintness to it,” he says. “It's a really great place to raise a family. It just feels like a step back in time."
We get to know this down-to-earth realtor in Season One of RealTours, as he guides Stephen Tadgh through Mission’s growing neighbourhoods.
A family affair.
McPherson is a third generation Missionite (yes, that’s what they’re called). His father was born here and his mother is one of the most famous people in town.
“My mom ended up getting into real estate here in Mission and has been the number one agent in the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board for almost 40 years,” he says. “And here I am now."
Clearly, McPherson has real estate in his blood, but it wasn’t always his plan to follow in his mother’s footsteps. He left Mission when he was 18 and moved to the snowy slopes of Whistler. While he was there, he met his future wife.
Ahead of the Olympics coming to Vancouver and Whistler in 2010, the pair decided it was time to escape back to quieter vibes.
“It just felt like a natural transition for me to move back and go to university to study agriculture at the University of the Fraser Valley,” McPherson explains. “That led me to a career of farming for about five to seven years."

Farm to table.
Farming and agriculture are true passions for McPherson. He was introduced to gardening as a child and started growing produce on the grounds of his family property. Eventually that led to selling the fruits of his labour to other Missionites at the town’s Saturday farmers market.
So how does one go from farming to real estate, one might ask? For McPherson, it was an obvious choice.
“I just kind of came to discover I had a bit of a knack for sales. It was a natural transition deciding to get into real estate. Yes they are two very different worlds but the commonality is working with people."
