Maillardville is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Coquitlam and was settled by French Canadians in 1909. These early migrants from Quebec made their mark on the architectural styles and community name of Maillardville. It was named after Father Esmond Maillard, who helped the French-speaking newcomers adjust to their new home in Maillardville. Adjacent to the Lougheed Highway and the Trans-Canada Highway, Maillardville is bound by North Road, the Brunette River and Braid Street to the west and the Fraser River to the south.
Maillardville has many heritage buildings and arts centres such as the Mackin House Museum and Heritage House that reflect its French Canadian heritage. In spring, Maillardville hosts the Festival du Bois, which features Acadian, French and world music and food.

There are five trains during weekday peak hours that operate on the West Coast Express commuter train connecting Coquitlam to downtown Vancouver in just under 30 minutes. There are also major transit routes that connect with Braid and Lougheed SkyTrain Stations.
