Killarney, which comprises two distinct neighbourhoods Champlain Heights and Fraserlands in the southeast corner of Vancouver, was largely rural until the 1950s. To this day, a small orchard of apple trees near the corner of 54th Avenue and Tyne Street in Killarney pays homage to F.R. Stewart, whose eight-hectare fruit farm once supplied a great deal of produce to the city.
Today, the area's once-rural past is still visible in its abundant green spaces, which provide pretty oases between Killarney's houses single-family homes and townhouses, as well as the glittering high-rise condo buildings constantly being developed along the Fraser River.
Killarney is also home to Vancouver's first co-operative housing unit, DeCosmos Village, built in 1970. Since then, many more co-ops have joined the pioneer, making Killarney real estate some of the most affordable in Vancouver.

Situated between East 41st Avenue to the north, the Fraser River to the south, Vivian Street to the west and Boundary Road (which separates Vancouver from Burnaby) to the easy, Killarney is served at its northern end by the Joyce SkyTrain Station.
