Richmond’s location south of Vancouver and its connections to the region via the Canada Line SkyTrain mean it will likely see much development in the future. A lot of this activity is expected to be concentrated around Richmond City Centre and its SkyTrain stations, but you can also expect to see townhomes, duplexes, triplexes and more in other regions, too.

Upcoming
projects

Richmond is just beginning its official community plan update. This will guide what development looks like for the next 25 or so years. While the details have yet to be finalized, you can likely expect more density and an emphasis on housing.

Projects like the Torino, consisting of condos near a SkyTrain station, are what many newcomers to Richmond see when riding the train, and more of these pop up often. But going farther away from central Richmond means you will see more townhomes as well as duplexes, triplexes and more. Still, areas near Steveston are likely to retain their heritage character, due to historic preservation bylaws.

[In Central Richmond] you have a ton of restaurants nearby, you're walking distance to grocery stores. Plus you have really good school catchments, IB programs and Richmond Secondary. Those are all the things a family wants.
