After five years on the market, the basketball legend has still not managed to sell his Chicago-area home
If there’s one thing that hasn’t been a total slam dunk for Michael Jordan, it’s selling his Chicago-area home. The basketball superstar put his custom-built 56,000-square-foot mega mansion on the market back in in 2012, but the home has just not been able to sell.
According to a Forbes report, Jordan originally listed his Highland Park home for USD $29 million back in 2012, but has since dropped the price down to $14.8 million.
The nine-bedroom, 15-bathroom home is truly spectacular, boasting a full-sized basketball court with locker rooms and glass viewing area, full tennis court, guest wing, putting green, circular infinity pool, cigar room, media room and full wine cellar. It's perhaps these hyper-customized home features that make Jordan's home a tougher one to sell.
"Many celebrities, flush with cash and looking to make their homes as comfortable as possible, tend to overimprove their homes with features that won't appeal to the next buyer," explained a MarketWatch report on the topic.
When converted into Canadian dollars, the price per-square-foot (PPSF) of MJ's pad works out to around $330, less than half of Vancouver’s $824.47 for detached homes. One would expect a home like Michael's at such a low PPSF to be more popular among buyers.
