South Slope mostly consists of single family homes with multi-family townhouses found north closer to Metrotown.

There are three elementary schools in South Slope, one secondary school, and post-secondary institution, the British Columbia Institute of Technology, is nearby.

South Slope is minutes away from the myriad of shopping and entertainment choices available in neighbouring Metrotown, while remaining a quiet, residential area idea for families. South Slope is close to the 90-hectare Central Park to the west, and Fraserview Golf Course in southeast Vancouver. Fraserview Golf Course is located on a 225-acre urban forest and was designed by renowned Canadian architect Thomas McBroom. South Slope residents can also enjoy the sports facilities at Riverway Sports Complex, which boasts natural turf fields and softball diamonds.

South slope has plenty of shopping options. Metropolis at Metrotown has over 450 shops, including big retailers like Forever 21, Sephora and designer boutiques like Armani and Coach.

Station Square has over 35 shops and services including a Famous Players movie theatre, Future Shop, Save-On Foods, a financial institution, travel agent and a currency exchange.

Crystal Mall, Burnaby's largest Chinese-Asian mall, has shops, a food court and professional health and education services. Crystal Mall is anchored by the Hilton Hotel and Convention Centre.

Old Orchard, the area's oldest mall, has a 24-hour Shoppers Drug Mart, a walk-in medical clinic, IGA Marketplace, and a B.C. liquor store.
