Simon Fraser University (also known as UniverCity) is a newly developed residential neighbourhood located on top of Burnaby Mountain in north-central Burnaby. It is a growing and sustainable urban community within walking distance of one of British Columbia's premier post-secondary institutions, Simon Fraser University.
The City of Burnaby plans to accommodate up to 10,000 people and has already won many awards for UniverCity's sustainable community model. The real estate market at Simon Fraser University consists of medium- to high-density housing developments, including multi-family townhouses and condos -- there are no single-family homes in the transit-oriented community.
A new elementary school, University Highlands Elementary, opened in September 2010 and new condos and townhouses are being built across the street from the school, making it ideal for young families. Also, to accommodate these new residents, a number of new housing developments are planned to expand the housing market.
The commercial core of Simon Fraser University is University High Street, a village-style block with restaurants, shops, services, a grocery store and pharmacy. There is also a Town Square designed to be the bridge that connects residents with the school campus. The public plaza is lined with cafes and restaurants and is a venue for community events, festivals and concerts for the residents and the students of Simon Fraser University.
The average price of a condo in the Simon Fraser University area is $417,547, or $464.91 per square foot. A unique characteristic of Simon Fraser University homes is zoning bylaws that allow for affordable legalized secondary suites in multi-story apartments, townhouses and condos. View SFU MLS® Listings
