Rize Alliance's proposed duo of residential towers in Metrotown raised concerns over density from local group Burnaby First at a recent public hearing

Rize Alliance's proposed duo of residential towers in Metrotown has raised concerns over density from local group Burnaby First at a public hearing July 22, reports Burnaby Now.

The two-tower "Gold House" project includes 41- and 26-storey towers, as well as townhouses and commercial office space. It is planned for a site located one block south of the Metropolis shopping mall, with the residential towers facing Beresford Street and low-rise housing on Cassie Avenue and McKay Avenue.

Former Green Party candidate Rick McGowan and former Parents' Voice school board candidate Helen Ward questioned the rezoning application for two high-density towers, observing that the southern half of the site is zoned for medium density, prompting questions over whether a tower should be built on that section of the site.

McGowan told the public hearing, "My concern is, if you put a second tower behind the first tower, that is going to set a precedent for the existing towers that they will see this as an opportunity to rezone behind those tall towers and build a secondary tower behind it in a north-south orientation."
