About the historic building
Built in 1909, this six-storey brick-and-stone commercial building at East Cordova and Columbia Street. Designed by well-known local architect Edward Evans Blackmore, it remained the headquarters for McLennan and McFeely until 1953.
After standing vacant from 1999-2004, in 2006 it was restored as the Koret Lofts by the well-established Worthington Properties. The developer wanted to stay true to the building’s heritage character, therefore lovingly preserved its large double hung wood windows, brick walls, heavy timber beams and columns, and much of the original fir flooring.
Drawing upon the developer’s love of New York City and London, England’s architecture, Koret’s inspiration fuses together the best of SoHo's Meatpacking District and London's Docklands. They used polished concrete floors, soaring 14-foot ceilings with timber columns, and an industrial-style windows to give the interior a spacious warehouse feel. The Koret Lofts is probably one of the best examples of loft conversions in Vancouver.
