If you’re looking for some inspiration and advice on your own renovation or custom build – or you just love gorgeous houses – check out this year’s Parade of Renovated Homes, presented on Sunday June 11 by the Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association (GVHBA) and sponsored by Fortis BC.

Highlights of new custom homes featured on the Parade include a Built-Green Platinum, Smart Home- and Energy Star-certified North Vancouver home with separate coach house, and an R2000 green-compliant home in Vancouver with a suite and in-ground parking, featuring spectacular views from its rooftop lounge.

Whole-home renovations on the Parade showcase the transformation of a variety of home types, including the reworking of a 1970s Vancouver Special, the updating of a 1940s Burnaby home into a forward-thinking house, and the perfect modernization of a craftsman-style home in Surrey.

The GVHBA said that the homes offer not just inspiration but also practical advice to would-be renovators and self-builders. According to Bob de Wit, CEO of the GVHBA, where decisions really count, in both savings to the homeowner and longevity to the home, are those made about the building materials, mechanicals and how these relate to the overall design of the home.

“Siding for your home may not seem as exciting as choosing appliances, but if I told you your decision can enhance the overall exterior design, increase the comfort level of living, while reducing operating costs, you might stop and think twice,” said De Wit. “Our participating builders are offering homeowners the rare opportunity to see first-hand what it takes to build above code with award-winning results, many of which may entitle the homeowner to energy-saving rebates too.”
