The stunning California home of television superstar Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia De Rossi is on the market for US$45 million, or $57 million Canadian.
The magnificent home was designed and built in the 1930s by renowned architect Wallace Frost, as a residence for himself after returning from living in Italy. The home emulates the classical style of 17th-century Italian villas, with incredible craftsmanship and tasteful use of luxury materials throughout home’s interior and exterior.
According to a Curbed report, Ellen and Portia originally bought the home in 2013 for US $26.5 million, later modernizing the home and buying two properties adjacent to it to expand their plot to 16.88 acres.
“The surrounding gardens and olive trees are almost as wonderful as the interior. The house truly feels like it was built out of the landscape, rather than plopped on a plot,” Ellen told Curbed. “It feels ancient, like it’s been there forever. Like that hill was never without the house. This is a home that honours nature, and I love that.”
