Home sales activity in the Chilliwack region posted an increase from year-ago levels in the third quarter of 2011.
Residential sales in the third quarter numbered 528 units, up 24 per cent from the same period last year. This marks the first quarter of year-over-year growth since the second quarter of 2010.
The number of months of inventory was down for single detached homes, townhouse and row, and apartment units. Buyers of single detached homes and townhouse and row units spent more time shopping than they had a year earlier, while buyers of apartment units decreased their shopping time.
The median sale price for single detached homes was up 5 per cent from year-ago levels to $345,000 in the third quarter of 2011.
The median price for townhouse and row unit sales was virtually unchanged from a year earlier at $237,900, while the median sale price for apartment units moved down seven per cent from a year earlier to $149,000 in the third quarter.
