The neighbourhood is named for the park of the same name, Central Park, a 90 hectare forested oasis in the middle of the city.

Central Park lies directly east of Boundary Road, which separates Vancouver and Burnaby. It has close ties to the Collingwood and Killarney neighbourhoods in Vancouver, and the Metrotown and South Slope neighbourhoods in Burnaby.

The Central Park real estate market is mostly made up of single-family homes, with higher density and high rise apartment and condo buildings closer to the Metrotown area.
