“The One” mixed-use development will measure 360 metres tall
The One, a mixed-use development that will become Canada’s tallest building, began construction recently in downtown Toronto, according to a release from international architecture firm Foster + Partners.
While the 85-storey building is slated to become the tallest building in the country, it will be the second-tallest man-made structure in Canada, rivaled only by Toronto’s iconic CN Tower.
“The One will bridge the two zones, inspired by its context, the neighbourhood quality of Yorkville, the commercial boulevard of Bloor Street and the local heritage character of Yonge Street,” stated the release.
The building will combine a residential tower with a retail base, which will be integrated with Toronto’s underground “PATH” pedestrian network. According to the Foster + Partners website, The One’s base will be made up of nine levels of shops, cafés and restaurants arranged around an atrium. Apartments will be accessed via glass bridge at the building’s 12th level. The development is expected to be completed in 2022.
“The One will set new standards for commercial and retail developments in Canada.
