Residential construction permits in April worth $477m, a slide of 28 per cent from March, says Statistics Canada

The value of Vancouver’s residential building permits in April was up by two-thirds compared with last year but still didn’t reach March’s heights, according to Statistics Canada data released June 8.

Residential permits in the city totalled nearly $477 million in April, up 66 per cent compared with April 2014, but a drop of 28.5 per cent compared with the $667 million of the previous month.

Victoria’s residential building permits were also up year over year, rising 96 per cent compared with April 2014 but falling 4.5 per cent compared with March. Kelowna residential permits were up a much more modest 1.1 per cent year over year and down 22.2 per cent month over month. Abbotsford-Mission saw a decline in both timeframes, down 46 per cent compared with April 2014 and 22.4 per cent compared with March.

Across Canada, the value of residential construction permits rose 19.7 per cent year over year and 1.2 per cent month over month to $4.54 billion in April.
