At Oakridge Park, QuadReal Property Group and Westbank and have partnered with some of the world’s leading architects, designers and artists to curate the residential towers. The result is a cultural hub, combining the best of urban living with a world-class retail experience, to offer residents an unrivalled lifestyle where everything they need is steps from their front door.

When complete, this town within a city will consist of over 3,000 homes and workspace for 3,000 professionals. The residences will be nestled amongst the reimagined Oakridge Shopping Centre, which will host hundreds of the world’s most exclusive brands, as well as a 9-acre park with six integrated smaller parks and a forest of newly planted trees, restoring the old-growth grove that once stood at the site. Amenities will include the city’s largest daycare, a flagship Goh Ballet Academy, the 100,000+ square-foot Oakridge Community Centre, indoor and outdoor live music venues, with dozens of diverse culinary adventures and a 60,000 sf food hall by Time Out Market, as well as the largest library on the city’s west side.

“At Oakridge Park, residents will enjoy an exclusive lifestyle that includes VIP experiences, retail and cultural events, and more,” says Irene Quan, Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Oakridge Park. “Oakridge Park is a unique, one-of-a-kind community that offers a lifestyle on par with cities on the global stage such as Dubai, New York and Hong Kong - while also enjoying the luxury of living in the world’s most livable city.”

Within Oakridge Park, Oakridge x Westbank is the latest residential tower available and an architecturally stunning 34-storey glass tower comprising 231 residences, from studios to three bedrooms. With common areas and amenities designed by Azuma Makoto, a world-renowned floral artist and botanical sculptor, the tower is expressed through three themes: East, West, and Contemporary.

“The design for this building came from a desire to create an atmosphere equal to the city of Vancouver,” explains Makoto. “Deeply connected to the natural world, surrounded by temperate coastal rainforest, northern mountains and the Pacific ocean; it is a cultural and ecological crossroads, a rare instance of a place where urbanity and nature coexist.”

Makoto went on to explain that his vision was to create a particular feeling – of being immersed in and surrounded by nature – as if you were always in a garden, even if you are actually inside a building.

“Taking inspiration from traditional Japanese gardenscape, “Karesansui,” I imagined a three-dimensional space, a garden which extends outwards in undulating ripples. The rippling patterns expand in all directions across the floor and the surface of the walls, appearing to spread infinitely further when viewed from above,” says Makoto. “In the garden I have created, lively green moss and stones are integrated together in a minimalist expression, each element composed to inspire a sense of peace and calm.”

The Oakridge x Westbank design team speak of “bringing the best of all our work together. At the same time, this building is about our evolution. What distinguishes Westbank from any other practice is the integral role our collaborations have played in our growth and in setting the course of our evolution.”

Towards this end, Makoto’s work is reflected in the Oakridge x Westbank Lobby, in the seating areas, reception desk and custom Fazioli Piano, as well as elevator corridors and other common areas.
