BC residential construction in November 2014 sees country’s second-largest investment increase, according to Statistics Canada

Investment in BC residential construction in November 2014 rose 10.9 per cent year over year – the country’s second-largest increase after Alberta, according to Statistics Canada data released January 22.

The $687 million invested in BC in November was down 7.8 per cent compared with the previous month – an anticipated seasonal drop.

As in previous months, townhome construction was the biggest driver of the increase, rising 34 per cent year over year.

Single-family homes were up 10.3 per cent compared with November 2013. Investment in duplexes rose 10.9 per cent year over year, and condo construction investment was up 6.6 per cent.

Across Canada, $4.1 billion was invested in residential construction in November – an increase of 3.7 per cent year over year.
