Agassiz is named for the 19th century French paleontologist Louis Agassiz. Its scientific namesake is apt, as the community hosts a federal agricultural research station.
Situated northeast of downtown Chilliwack on the north bank of the Fraser River, Agassiz offers the kind of bucolic setting where you'd want to raise kids or corn. Single-family homes and acreages are abundant below the rugged backdrop of the mountains, with room to roam alone on the forested country roads.
