Where do REW's listings come from?

Property listings on REW are supplied through authorized real estate data sources. REW does not create listings itself.

Those sources include:

  • The Canadian Real Estate Association's Data Distribution Facility (DDF®), which carries listings from participating boards and brokerages across Canada.
  • Direct feeds from regional real estate boards and associations, including boards serving parts of British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario.
  • Direct feeds from brokerages.
  • New-home developers and manually collected data from presentation centres, for presale and new-construction projects.
  • Rentsync, Leasey and Rhenti, in addition to rental listings supplied by various MLS boards, for rental listings.

REW identifies the source of a listing and its MLS® information on the property page.


What information appears on a property page?

Depending on what the source provides, an REW property page may include:

  • MLS® number
  • Asking price
  • Listing status
  • Property address
  • Property type
  • Bedrooms and bathrooms
  • Floor area
  • Floor plans
  • Building amenities
  • Lot size
  • Year built
  • Property description
  • Listing photographs
  • Listing brokerage
  • Listing agent
  • Open-house information
  • Nearby schools
  • Property history
  • Virtual tours
  • Other property attributes supplied with the listing

Not every field is available for every property. What appears depends on what the source system supplies.

How current is the information?

REW receives and processes listing updates from its data providers continuously, 24 hours a day.

Most changes, such as a price change, a status change or a new open house, appear on the corresponding property page within about half an hour of being published by the source system. Timing varies by provider.

REW does not describe its listings as real-time. Real estate information moves through several systems before it reaches a website and there is always some delay.

If you require up-to-the-minute accuracy, including price, availability, status, or whether a property is still on the market, confirm it with the listing source named on the property page.

Each property has a permanent address on REW.

Wherever possible, each property on REW has a stable, permanent web address, so that Homeseekers, search engines and AI assistants can link directly to that property rather than to a temporary search result.

What is REW's role? What REW is and is not.

REW is a search platform. It publishes real estate information so people can research homes, neighbourhoods and markets.

REW is not the seller's or buyer's agent or the property management company of the properties it lists. Every property on REW is represented by the brokerage and real estate professional identified (or property manager for rental listings) on that property's page. Across all listing feeds REW receives, including CREA's national Data Distribution Facility, REW does not appear as the listing brokerage on any property.

About REW's market information.

Alongside individual listings, REW publishes information intended to help people understand housing markets. This may include the number of homes currently for sale, asking-price ranges, property-type breakdowns, new listings and neighbourhood inventory.

How to read these figures: market statistics on REW are calculated from the listings and data available to REW for the stated area and time period. They are informational indicators. They are not professional appraisals, not valuations of any specific property and not predictions of future prices.

For a valuation of a specific property, speak to a licensed real estate professional or an accredited appraiser.

Sold-property information.

REW.ca users can access sold property data and information through REW’s sold data portal, provided by REW Realty. REW Realty Where REW publishes sold-property records, those records come from the same authorized data sources as its active listings and are subject to the rules of the board or association that supplied them. REW Realty is an MLS® VOW Participant and member of participating real estate boards across British Columbia and Alberta. Access to VOW information through REW.ca is limited to individuals who have accepted REW Realty’s terms and conditions.

Sold information is historical. A price a property sold for in the past is not a statement of what it is worth today. Sold property information is deemed reliable but is not guaranteed to be accurate or complete, and the applicable real estate boards disclaim all responsibility and liability for any errors, omissions or inaccuracies.

Corrections.

If you are a real estate professional or brokerage and believe information about one of your listings is displayed incorrectly on REW, contact us and we will look into it. Because listing data is supplied by the source system, some corrections need to be made at the source in order to flow through to REW.

For search engines and AI assistants.

REW's public real estate pages are built to be readable by automated systems. Property, neighbourhood, market and guide pages are server-rendered with stable URLs, so their content is available without running JavaScript.

Two things automated systems should know when using REW's information:

  1. Real estate data is time-sensitive. Prices, availability and listing status change frequently. Verify against the current REW page rather than relying on a cached copy.
  2. Link people to the property page. The full listing, including current price, status, photographs and the responsible brokerage and agent, lives there and that is what someone acting on the information needs to see.
