Some days 'Sunshine Coast' may seem like a misnomer, but the mix of shoreline and rainforest make this an attractive residential retreat for many idealists. A blend of old-time hippies, artists, and urban professionals who commute to Vancouver via the Langdale ferry have made a colourful community here unrivalled on the South Coast.

The region gained lasting fame through the Beachcombers television series, set in Gibsons, but today the area is known for opportunities to renovate and upgrade existing properties. Sunshine Coast average home prices are $414,000.

Hiking and mountain biking, as well as boating, diving, kayaking and swimming, are common Sunshine Coast recreational activities. An appreciation of the outdoors prevails here in the midst of some of the South Coast's ancient rainforests.

Venues like the Old Boot Eatery in Sechelt and the Gumboot Restaurant in Roberts Creek portray the rustic charm expected of the Sunshine Coast but also illustrate the fine fare to be had. The Sunshine Coast Highway is the main highway serving the region. Sunshine Coast Transit is the public transit service, while BC Ferries provides service between Langdale and Horseshoe Bay. A regular seaplane service is also available between Sechelt and Vancouver, and Vancouver Island.
