Richmond is a historic city just south of the Vancouver International Airport and the City of Vancouver and just 20 minutes north of the US/Canada border. It's on Lulu Island, between the two arms of the Fraser River, and its rich delta soil still produces bountiful crops of vegetables and berries, especially in eastern Richmond.
The urbanized western part of the island is an extremely desirable location for families looking for close proximity to Downtown Vancouver. Since the 1990s it has also been a magnet for new Canadians from China. In some areas, particularly Golden Village between Number 3 and Number 4 Road, it's possible to think you're in Asia.
TranksLink's SkyTrain has a terminus station, Richmond-Brighouse, in the heart of the area, which puts commuters in Downtown Vancouver within minutes.
Due to Richmond's downtown core, the city has denser multi-family housing. This includes a high concentration of condominiums and apartments. Richmond Centre Mall, one of the largest shopping centres in the area, offers everything from clothing stores, jewelers, eletronics stores, a dental clinic and a physiotherapy centre. Lansdowne Centre, another large mall, offers several department stores, beauty salons, toy stores and outlet stores all within one location. In summer, people from all over flock to Richmond's Summer Night Market, for shopping, entertainment, and most of all, delicious pan-Asian street food.

While Richmond is a very urban suburban city, the area offers several options for residents to stay active. Residents can visit the Lang Centre, a 3,000-square-foot community centre that offers sports such as badminton and soccer, as well as a gym. The Richmond Ice Centre offers residents a full ice arena for hockey practices and skating. For a refreshing dip, visit the Minoru Aquatic Centre, which offers several pools, two whirlpools and a children's slide. Richmond is also great for golf lovers. With several top-notch courses in and around the city, golfers don't need to travel far to tee off. Several courses include the Greenacres Golf Course, the Richmond Country Club and the Mayfair Lakes Golf and Country Club.
Translink offers numerous bus services to Richmond, including the C94 Richmond Oval/Brighouse Station and the C96 East Cambie/Brighouse Station routes. The quickest way for transit riders to commute to other parts of the Greater Vancouver area is to board the SkyTrain Canada Line at the Richmond-Brighouse station. Drivers can also take the No. 2 Road into Vancouver.
