If you’re looking for lifestyle without the Vancouver price tag, you could consider the charming lakeside community of Harrison Hot Springs

Just a 90-minute drive from Vancouver lies a resort town complete with a massive lake, scenic mountains, a provincial park and hot springs to boot. With less than 1,500 full-time residents, Harrison offers small-town living – and small-town real estate prices – with easy access to all the amenities of the Fraser Valley and Lower Mainland. Here are five reasons this lakeside village is a great place to call home.

1. Harrison Lake

While the hot springs give the village its name, Harrison Lake is the real showstopper in town. Covering more than 200 square kilometres, it’s home to a huge range of fish and other wildlife and provides plenty of opportunities for recreation. From swimming to fishing to kayaking, the lake is a hub of activity during spring and summer, and there are a number of condo buildings right at the beach.

2. Eagle Mania

All those fish in the lake and nearby rivers create the perfect environment for eagles to feed. The Harrison River is the third-largest gathering point for bald eagles in all of North America, and it’s an incredible sight when they arrive by the thousands each fall.

3. Sasquatch Provincial Park

This 1,217-hectare park right on Harrison’s doorstep offers even more opportunities for water activities at Hicks and Deer Lakes, which are much warmer for swimming than the larger Harrison Lake. The park has three popular campgrounds with stunning lake and mountain views.

4. The Mountain View

Of course, you don’t have to head into the woods to get an incredible mountain view. Harrison Hot Springs is surrounded by mountains, so even if you can’t see a mountain from your window, you’ll get an eyeful every time you leave the house. There are plenty of hiking trails in and around the mountains for an even closer look.

5. An Agricultural Back Yard

It’s pretty easy to stick to a 100-mile diet when there are working farms just a short drive away. From The Farm House Natural Cheeses to the Hammersley Farms berry orchards to Sparkes Corn Barn, there is plenty of fresh, real food right at your doorstep. Many local farms open their doors to visitors and sell their products on site.
