The study examined the online asking price of both unfurnished and furnished apartments in 100 global cities

Vancouver has placed 32nd out of 100 in a ranking of global rent prices for unfurnished and furnished apartments, released November 16 from German real estate portal Nestpick.

“The study looks at the online asking price of both furnished and unfurnished apartments in 100 cities around the globe,” stated the Nestpick website. “Splitting the research into two further categories, we compared the price for a single person against a family. Using a furniture store with a global operation, we then analysed the cost of equipping these apartments with the exact same set of furniture.”

According to the survey, a single-person unit is 419 square feet and a family-sized unit is 796 square feet. The rental price of an unfurnished family unit in Vancouver on the list is USD $1,394, which is not all that high.

At $1,394, Vancouver ranked 32nd, placing under cities like Seattle, Tel Aviv, Atlanta and Munich. The top five cities in the list were San Francisco, New York, Boston, Hong Kong, and Washington D.C.

Vancouver single-person units were notably lower in cost than the family-sized units, at $721 and $822 for an unfurnished and furnished smaller unit respectively.

“The data looks at currently listed properties and is representative of today’s asking price for rent in each city, and not the overall historical average residents pay. In addition to this, currency fluctuations have also had an impact on the latest rent prices,” the study noted.
