The former agricultural land was first developed as large family homes with acreages, before becoming parceled up for greater development from the mid 1990s.
Fairborne Homes’ Cristy Edmonds explains why the company chose this part of the Lower Mainland for its Sequoia development.
“The area has become very popular with young families, says Cristy. “We saw this as the perfect opportunity for our first townhome development.”
The gentle slope of the site to the north offers views of the North Shore mountains and on two sides of Sequoia is protected green space, a big draw to those hoping the area will not become overdeveloped.

The concept, says Cristy , is to extend living space and bring people together.
She also pointed out that: “The homes themselves also feature fully fenced rear yards which are typically not found in townhomes. Some of our rear yards are as large as you’d find in a single family home!”
Another feature rarely found in such developments is that all homes come with a double-car garage.
Piecing all of this together, it’s clear that the target demographic is young families, young couples starting out and couples or families looking for all the features new homes bring.
“The homes were designed with family living in mind,” says Cristy. “All homes feature an open concept main floor – perfect for Mom to watch over her kids while she’s busy in the kitchen. They also come with three bedrooms and two full baths, great for growing families with changing needs.”
So, what is the hope for this development? What does Fairborne hope to leave behind? “The craftsman-style architecture, featuring brick and wood accents, blends seamlessly into the established neighbourhood of single family homes and will leave a legacy of quality and timeless design for years to come.
The family legacy is not only apparent in the design of the neighbourhood, but is very much present in its name: “Sequoia.” The name was chosen to reflect the developer’s wish for buyers to establish and grow deep family roots – just like the tree after which it is named.
