This lovely Kerrisdale home, which is architecturally reminiscient of the Obama residence (although much newer), enjoys a fantastic outdoor pool where the Obamas just have lawns
The 33,000-plus-square-foot property is contained by antique European wrought-iron gates and railings, seeming to offer more security and privacy than the Obamas' place
Also similar to the Obama house is this elegant formal living room with a grand fireplace, with huge windows overlooking the lush gardens
Every grand residence should have a separate formal dining area, and this Kerrisdale home is no different
This more relaxed family room is perfect for kicking back in at the end of the day, and has an even more enormous fireplace
Like in the Obama home, the family room has a great flow to the less formal of the two dining areas and through to the kitchen
Even though this is the less-formal of the two eating areas, it is way grander than the Obamas' kitchen dining area
Another key difference is in the kitchen style - this one in the French country style, whereas the Obamas' kitchen is contemporary. But just look at that lovely window!
Even if you're not a past-president and your guests aren't celebrities, you still need fabulous entertaining spaces
The lavish office-library is mahogany-paneled and on par with any presidential office
The library also has an elaborate fireplace, perfect for staring into the flames as you plot your presidential run
Another notable similarity between the two homes is this contrasting, black-and-white foyer with its sweeping staircase
Michelle Obama would be just as much at home gliding along this light-filled upstairs landing as in her own house
Master bedroom: two-chair sitting area - check. Grand fireplace - check. Corner room with tonnes of natural light - check.
Aside from the curved ceiling and round window (bonus points to Kerrisdale), this bathroom is the twin of the Obamas' bathroom
Tell us this window desk overlooking the gardens is not the image of the bedroom desk in the Obama residence. We dare you!
This charming bedroom is one of six in this sprawling Kerrisdale house, and also has an ensuite
We know this house has a media room, and we're not sure if this is it, but either way it's a super-cozy den at the top of the house
The wine room downstairs has an imposing and characterful door...
... and when you turn the corner, you can see it has room for 1,000 bottles
There's also space for a large home gym, which seems to have some pretty serious equipment right now
A spacious recreation room currently houses a pool table and has tonnes of possible uses
The elegant gardens were designed by award-winning landscape architect Paul Sangha to include specimen plantings and trees
As well as this lovely outdoor fireplace, the grounds have bluestone terraces and hand-cut stonework
An aerial shot of the property shows the large footprint of this gorgeous home and its stunning swimming pool

Having recently published a (highly voyeuristic) photo gallery tour of the Obama family’s lovely new Washington DC home, when we came across this luxury Kerrisdale listing, we were struck with its likeness.

Currently on the market for just over $20m, this six-bedroom mansion on Vancouver’s desirable West Side may be a lot newer than the Obamas’ heritage property, but many of its rooms, its grounds, the design features and general layout bear a remarkable resemblance. From the exterior architecture, to the grand formal living rooms, to the cozy family rooms, the black-and-white foyers, the sweeping staircases, the huge fireplaces, the butler’s pantries, the terraces and the lovely gardens, the similarities between the two houses go on and on. However, although the Obamas’ house arguably beats our local home on age and character, the Vancouver property has a trump card (pun intended) – a gorgeous outdoor pool.
