Bowen Island Neighbourhood

Bowen Island residents are protective of their home 25 kilometres northwest of Vancouver in the middle of Howe Sound, and the retreat it offers from British Columbia's Lower Mainland. Public debates regarding high-profile developments on the south side of the island highlight this.

Home to approximately 3,700 full-time residents, including a dynamic community of entrepreneurs and artists, Bowen Island is a 20-minute ferry ride from West Vancouver, and an hour by car from downtown Vancouver.

Shopping requires a trip to West Vancouver, but Blue Eyed Mary's restaurant is a local favourite for socializing with residents and the visitors who come to enjoy the island's hiking trails and other recreational opportunities. Summer offers beaches, kayak rentals, golfing and hiking to the top of Mount Gardner, the island's highest point.

The retreat the island offers comes at a price -- the average list price of a Bowen Island home is over $1 million, with the cheapest property starting at approximately $400,000. With a median age in the 2006 census of 45 years, residents are in the prime of life and ready to enjoy it. Check out Bowen Island MLS® listings
