The priciest sales of August 14-20 include two high-end homes designed by a West Coast Modern architectural icon
5: SOLD: $6,060,000
Of the five priciest properties to sell in the Greater Vancouver region August 14-20 (registered as of August 25), this dated-but-awesome 1981-built house comes in fifth. Situated on a large corner lot in West Point Grey – north of 4th and steps from Jericho Beach – the home has incredible views from its circular rooftop deck and the circular living-dining room below. There’s also a great room with vaulted ceilings and a fireplace, as well as three bedrooms and a large recreation room. The home sold for $160K over asking, which is impressive after 135 days on the market.

4. SOLD: $6,080,000
Photo: Google Street View
The fourth priciest Greater Vancouver residential sale last week has no listing photos, because it was marketed purely for lot value as a development opportunity. This is a two-lot parcel (including two teardown homes, as the Google Street View snapshot shows) totalling 14,128 square feet of land in the Cambie Corridor. This means it can be developed into a four-storey condo building (preliminary designs are for a 30-unit building). It is close to Langara-49th SkyTrain station and was bought for $508K under listing price after only nine days on the market.

3. SOLD: $7,500,000
The second of two houses in this week’s list to sell for above asking, this seven-bedroom mansion in Vancouver’s most-prized neighbourhood – Shaughnessy – spent only one day on the market before being snapped up for $7.5 million, $112K over asking price. This opulently designed home has super-prime finishings and a lofted top-floor “artist’s sanctuary” with skylights. It’s in a highly sought-after location just steps to prestigious schools and leisure clubs.

2. SOLD: $11,500,000
One of two West Vancouver homes on this list designed by the illustrious Fred Hollingsworth (a celebrated West Coast Modernist architect), this spectacular family home in Caulfeild sold for $11.5 million, $1.498 million below list, after 30 days. A luxury home with incredible 280-degree views over Vancouver and the ocean, it has 6,489 square feet of living space and more than 1,600 square feet of deck space – including that fabulous view hot tub. It also boasts an elevator, a movie theatre and a climate-controlled wine room.

1. SOLD: $13,000,000
Just like living in California, but in West Vancouver! The priciest home sale by a considerable margin was this oceanfront, contemporary, glass beach house on one of West Vancouver’s most chi-chi streets, Bellevue Avenue. This Hollingsworth-designed house is finished with exquisite luxury details and is packed with smart-home technology. Those huge patio doors open right out to the beach, and the home is also within easy walking distance of the charming and upmarket Dundarave Village. This property sold for nearly $2 million under its original $14,998,000 price after 134 days on market.
